I think your doctor took ankle x ray along with foot x ray n ruled out ankle fracture. Considering there is no fracture around ankle, there are many reasons for ankle swelling. Please keep your leg elevated over the pillow. Apply ice packs. Do not bear weight on the affected leg for 3 weeks, keep moving your toes frequently. You will be fine very soon.

Rice therapy. Rest ice packs compression - you can use a crepe bandage or an ankle binder elevation - keep your leg over a pillow when sleeping. Do not try to bear weight over the affected leg. You might also be having ligament sprain and such issues are not seen on the xray. Give some time for the soft tissue healing. You can take some mild painkillers whenever you suffer unbearable pain and apply some local ointment (diclofenac or such). Swelling will take time to go completely. Do not worry, get well soon!
