I am a diabetes patient. I have been prescribed new medicines last week and since then i'm having lot of acidity & loose stools problem. The newly prescribed medicines are glimepiride 1 mg+metformin 500 mg (1-0-1) & metformin 500 mg + vildagliptin 50 mg (1-0-1). Please help me how can overcome this problem.

Hello, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. You have mentioned two different combinations 1) metformin plus glimiperide & 2) metformin & vildagliptin. Both these tablets have metformin. In some patients that drug tends to cause gastrointestinal upsets. In that situation patients are advised to take the tablets after taking food. So if you are taking the tablets before food then shift to after food. If you are taking after food only and still the gastrointestinal side effects are occurring then usually these settle down after a few days. Or you may have to look for a change of the treatment. Since there is no mention of actual glucose levels (fasting & pp) and hba1c%, dietary pattern, extent of exercise, weight and height, no further comments can be made.
