Hi. My mother is 56 and her sugar levels are mostly nowadays 90-100. Today, I got a glucose fasting test and the test showed 90. She takes two medicines- 1) sitagliptin phosphate and metformin hydrochloride tablets, two times a day. Morning after the breakfast and night after the dinner i.e. 2 doses a day. 2) glimepiride tablets amaryl 1 mg- once a day- before breakfast in the morning. Should she lower any of these or continue having them?

Hello, thanks for the query. I have gone through the information given. You have mentioned only the fasting glucose level. There is no information on after food glucose & hba1c%. Also there is a need to know her lipid profile, serum creatinine & urea levels to give any specific advise. It is better if you also give information on her dietary pattern, weigh, height and extent of daily exercise. Ideally at her age fbg should be < 100 mg, pp should be around 150 to 160 mg & hba1c% < 6.5%. That will help in remaining fairly healthy and free from long term complications associated with diabetes. Thanks.
