Excess of everything is bad. Fluoride content of 1-1.2 ppm water is good for health, consumption of more than this range for longer period of time is bad for health. Fluoride in toothpaste is in acceptable limits for use by adults.

Hello lybrate-user, it's good that you are concerned about this. Actually, the harmful effects of fluoride are known as fluorosis. It may be dental or skeletal. Dental fluorosis develop when drinking water, specially in early 8 years of life, contains 2 mg/lit or more of fluoride content. Skeletal fluorosis develop when fluoride content is more than 4 parts per million in drinking water. The amount of fluoride in tooth pastes and mouth rinses are although high but their form and absorption is different. They come only in contact with teeth and oral cavity and hence are not harmful. Toxicity develop due to regular absorption like in drinking water. That is why it is avoided to swallow tooth pastes or mouth rinses.

Visit a dentist. The method of acidic micro abrasion, followed by remineralisation procedures, assures a considerable recovery of the dental surfaces affected by fluorosis. Best way is capping or veneers for upper front 6 teeth & lower front 6 teeth. Until then use tooth mousse tooth paste. Apply this paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.
