She is studying in coaching institute for neet 2024 at chandigarh. Suffering from anxiety of selection which is affecting her studies and hence performance. She visited recently a psychiatrist at chandigarh who prescribed her escitalopram regularly for 2-3 months and tofiposam sos. But I did advised her not to start medication. Please guide with counselling and medication to improve her condition.

The psychiatrist must have prescribed escitalopram after a thorough assessment and with a diagnosis in his mind. Escitalopram is usually easy to tolerate and do not have any significant side effects even in long term. Counselling is a resource, time and cost intensive treatment modality where the candidate also need to put lot of time and mental energy to process and implement whatever discussed during the therapy session, else you won't see any effect of therapy even after months. So in my opinion, pharmacotherapy is best for her at this juncture of her life.
