For depression (diagnosed by college counsellor and behaviour problems -anger, doesn't like being checked ,lack of routine . Whom to consult a psychologist or a psychiatrist. Can a psychiatrist guide in cognitive therapy and counselling.

I would suggest you to first consult a psychologist. Regular counselling therapy will help you better manage your emotions. You will also be able to learn to respond in a more mature and positive way to situations which currently triggering anger and sadness. If your psychologist feels that you need to go on medication then she will send you to psychiatrist. Even if you need to start medicine continue your sessions with psychologist. This will help you reduce and eventually stop medicines. Hope this helps wishing you very best.
