Hi, varicose veins are ill or pathological veins where the lower limb veins lose their capacity to drain away the blood functionally leading to swollen veins. They slowly i. E over years cause edema, pain, skin problems and non healing ulcers. It is better to consult a surgeon and take his opinion whether to go for a surgery. Personal care like keeping the legs elevated while sleeping, reducing standing time, using stockings or crepe bandage regularly will help to some extent. Thanq.

Varicose veins occur due to incompetence of valves in the sapheneous veins of the legs due to consistent pressure in the veins of long standing posture where bloid column has to climb up towards heart against gravity. Raising the legs above the level of the heart empties the veins and the stretch pain is relieved. Compressive strapping around legs of crepe bandage helps in preventing distension of veins. Operation of stripping of vein, laser surgery can also help in solving the problem.Sclerosing therapy by injecting the veins is also available.
