I would like to know why doctors commonly prefer antidepressant rather than antianxiety drug for anxiety. I have anxiety Bt am on antidepressant. My anxiety does not go away. If antidepressant fails what should do? Can antianxiety drug would be help full?

Because anxiety and depression have same serotonin pathways as the cause. Though classified as antidepressants, for anxiety, these are the medications of choice. They can be safely taken on a longer run. Pure anxiety reducing benzodiazepine group of drugs like anxit, restyl, are very harmful on a longer run, in fact the name it self on these by drug companies are misleading. Psychiatrists and neurologists, dont prescribe them on a longer run, but for short term use only. SSRI group can be safely taken for long term
