For < 2 year old kid, what could be the reason behind silent cry (observed only once yesterday? His mother is 2nd time pregnant since past 5-months & he is mostly taken care of by his father & grand parents these days. Is it causing any psychological impact? He is otherwise healthy & normal - no change in behavior or playing habits so far.

He needs maternal contact and the pregnant mother can do so even if she is carrying. The age gap between siblings is not ideal but it can be managed if the older child is not deprived of maternal nurturing and attention. Just a good deal of physical contact will suffice primarily and a little bit of verbal nurturing will go a long way. The mother is the primary caretaker and no one can replace her adequately.

It seems that he is missing his mother. See that he feels enthusiastic about getting a brother or sister. Engage him in different activities to divert his attention.
