My daughter age is 4+.I have done stool test there it has mentioned reducing sugar - present (trace) what does this mean?
Ask Free Question
It means the stool contain undigested sugar due to transient deficiency of lactase enzyme due to damaged brush border enzyme activity LACTASE due to infectious gastrointestinal infection. Clinically it has no significance as this is temporary and enzyme activity is restored on its own provided the child is continued normal feeding including mothers milk or top milk. Please do not stop milk. Please do not use antibiotics and antidiarrhoeal even if your doctor has prescribed. They do more harm than good. The sheet Anchor in management of Diarrhoea is correction of dehydration by WHO formulated ORS Zinc supplementation and continued feeding. Best wishes

It doesn't have any significance. If child have diarrhoea with loss of weight, than you are suppose to reduce milk and milk products in diet. But trace have no significance and it doesn't Warren any precaution.
