I am suffering from thyroid since 5 years. Doctors had suggested me to take tablets of thyronorm 0.25 mg and a thyroid test for every 6 months. Is there any alternate method to get rid of tablets and these thyroid tests?

Please note that thyroid is a normal gland located in the neck region on the front. It can have deranged function such as functioning lesser than normal which is known as hypothyroidism for which thyronorm medicine is given in a suitable dose since the gland itself is not able to produce hormones in sufficient quantity. This is known as supplementation treatment of hypothyroidism which you are being subjected to as you are taking thyronorm in sufficient dose. You just need to check TSH levels at regular intervals of 6 to 12 months to ensure that it is within normal. This will imply that the particular dose of thyronorm suits you. Kindly keep at it i.e. Take thyronorm in the dose that suits you and forget about any alternate method to get rid of tablets or test. A few of my patients tried Homeopathy without success. Its a simple tablet without any side effects. Hope that helps you.

Mr. lybrate-user, Hypothyroidism is a condition occurring due to thyroxine hormone deficiency. This hormone (produced by thyroid gland) is necessary for development of brain as well as day to day functioning of it. Plus it is required for a number of metabolic reactions which are constantly taking place in our body. Since our gland stops producing or produces very little there has to be a daily supplement provided from outside. Hence, only option is to take Thyroxine tablets in prescribed dosage for lifetime. Otherwise there can be serious consequences. Thanks.
