My son is under treatment for anxiety. Mood swings. He is under treatment of allopathy and homeopathy. Is taking depakote. Emsidon 40. Oxetol and homeopathy medicines. Have read of serious side effects of these medicines. Can I stop allopathy and give only homeopathy. Is taking medicines for the same from over 6 years. Please help.

Dear Lybrate User, Allopathic medicines shd be stopped not abruptly but the dosage has to be reduced gradually. For example, if patient is taking 1 tablet a day, reduce it to half tablet a day for a month. In next subsequent month, reduce it to 1/4th for a month. And then stop it. Yes homeopathy is effective in mental issues when the patient is getting the right medicines. So in the manner described above you can reduce allopathic medication and then stop it. Observe the behavior of the patient without notifying him when the reduction of medication is going on. Some behavioral aspects are intensified when the normal dosage is altered. Contact the homeopathy doctor and alert him the changes observed so that homeopathy can recover the behavioral aspect. Divine Blessings!
