Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Hyperthyroidism is a disease where our thyroid gland becomes hyper active and produces more than required amount od hormone Thyroxine. Why the disease occurs is difficult to explain in this answer. It could be an autoimmune problem or related to problem with pituitary gland too. Excee of hormone causes multiple symptoms like weight loss, heat intolerance, increased heart rate, palpitation, increased appetite, sleep disturbances, anxiety, wet skin etc. Treatment is to give drugs which reduce thyroxine secretion. Thanks.
