My thyroid was within normal range but I am pregnant and my doctor has told it to reduce it to below 3.now I am taking 100 mg thyronorm medicine. Is it considered hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Will my medication stop after pregnancy.

It is Hypothyrodism. Your doctor was correct in advising to keep the TSH below 3. It is likely that you might have to continue your Thyronorm medication after delivery, although your doctor would reduce the dosage after delivery.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. During pregnancy and even before conception, TSH has to be maintained at the lower end of the nor, mal. During pregnancy recommended levels are: 1st Trimester: 0.1 to 2.5 mU/L, 2nd Trimester: 0.2 to 3.0 mU/L, 3rd Trimester: 0.3 to 3.0 mU/L. Ideally it is good to maintain TSH around 2 mU/L. This condition is known as hypothyroidism. By maintaining TSH <2 mU/L, it helps better fetal growth, as well as results in desired out come of the pregnancy.
