Hello, I am 25 years old lady and I am having thyroid since after giving birth. It became normal after six months of my child birth but later on when I went for the test I got to know that I again have thyroid. After reading so many articles on Google I got confuse between what to eat or what not. I eat chappati daily but but there they mentioned that wheat oats rice should not be eaten in thyroid. So what do I do now? I spend my whole day by drinking water and eating fruits but then also I feel hungry and want to eat chappati as I am having it since my childhood. Please suggest me something so that I can reduce my weight and thyroid also.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. In hypothyroidism one should mainly avoid soy beans and soy containing foods. There is a big list mentioned like not to eat cabbage, cauliflower, radish, mustard, and coffee. There is no reason to do that. Moderate quantity of these vegetables can be taken. As for coffee a small quantity is no problem. Wheat has gluten some persons have problem with gluten, for then it may be necessary to avoid. You need not do that. Most important is to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L, at which level all the symptoms are in check. Always eat a good quantity of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Plus use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Do not remove the fiber part. Restrict total calories to avoid weight increase and do regular exercise. If you have any doubts please do come back. Thanks.
