I was suffering from hyperthyroidism (6) and taken prescribed medication thyrox 34.5. It has been 3-4 years since I started taking medicines. Now I am 26 years old and my last 3 blood reports are within normal limits (4.9). How long I have to take or can I stop taking medications. Please provide the clear answers as few doctors are suggesting to call or visit privately. Thanking you in advance.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. When a person is on levothyroxine, the condition is hypothyroidism. If all the symptoms have to be controlled well enough, then tsh should be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l. Since it is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disease, that hormone has to be supplemented every day for life time. There is no escape. I hope you understand. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
