My wife had a blood test in a reputed laboratory. I saw the technician use a bd vacutainer holder which he took from a basket and a needle. After test he destroyed the needle but retained the holder. I was sceptic. Are plastic holders reusable? Can this transmit any blood borne disease? I am scared.

Hi, the plastic holders are indeed reusable and pose absolutely no threat of transmission of blood-borne pathogens, such as hiv or hepatitis. The way that the disposable needles are placed into the plastic holder precludes any chance of contamination. Your problem is anxiety, not hiv.
