Dear Ms. Lybrate-user, only sleep medications won't help you. You need proper medications to control the episodes of bipolar disorder, be it mania, hypomania or depression. Please see a psychiatrist for proper evaluation. Please don't rely only on sleep medications as later on you may get dependent on them. Thanks.

The medicines you are taking like zolpidem and lorazepam are not indicated as the primary treatment of insomnia in the context of bipolar disorder. You need to restart the course from your treating psychiatrist and take the medicines as advised. The doctor, once he feels that your symptoms are well under control, will slowly taper the medicines as stop. Please don't self medicate, since insomnia in bipolar disorder can sometimes go either way, up (hypo/mania), or down (depression) and it will need adequate treatment and maintenance with a mood stabilizer.
