I am 50 years old. I have hypertension and hypothyroidism for last 2 years. I am taking arbitel 20 mg (1-0-0) for hypertension daily and thyronorm 50 mcg for hypothyroidism. I do brisk walking for 30 minutes every day. For the last 2 months, my bp is 140+/90 with medication, and once it went up to 165/95. What could be the reason? Should I change the medicine or the dosage? I am not able to eat fruits regularly because of the location. My other eating habits are normal.

Your bp 165/95 is quite high. It is a silent harmful disease which affects all organs. You need personal examination. Please consult your local physician for checkup and advice.

Ideally bp should remain below 140/90 mm according to latest guidelines. You try to increase the dose of present medicine first and monitor bp.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. Following are my observations: 1) There is no mention of current TSH levels, so difficult to know whether hypothyroidism is well controlled or not. TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 U/L, to be free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. 2) BP is not normal. It should be around 120 to 130 / 70 to 80 mm Hg. That means current dosage is not adequate. 3) Brisk walking should be for much more time every day. Reduce the intake of salt. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and salads as well as fruits. Thanks.
