I'm on sertraline 150 mg since 2 months. And my symptoms are some what in control. I was not able to sleep properly from 2 days. Due to my son waking up for feeds. And from since 3rd day. I feeling very anxious and fearful for no reason. I slept for 9 hours now. But still feeling the same. I have ativan with me. But scared to take it due to breastfeeding and my son's seizures. What should I do? Please help.

Hello lybrate-user, don't breastfeed your child without consulting a child specialist for the same. Regarding you samreen. I would suggest you to go for psychologist psychotherapy because that will help you out to relax, excess use of medicine will also hinder your breast feeding habit as what I can understand you are going through a postpartum situation where after delivering a baby mother faces lot of psychological issues. According to me you should seek a consultation for counselling and relaxing your mind and body with the help of a relaxation and psychotherapy and not with the medicine. Thank you.

You may have one of the 2 things: post partum anxiety depression or restlessness maybe due to high dose of sertraline. Please avoid taking ativan as it may pass in breast milk. Also consult a psychiatrist to review the dose of sertraline and ask to reduce the dose if possible. Also try not to breastfeed immediately after taking sertraline. You can take it after your night feed. But please express and extract some breast milk and store in case you need to feed the baby in the night. You can safely breastfeed in the morning and throughout the day. Its normal to feel anxious post delivery. Try some relaxation techniques and breathing exercises to help reduce anxiety.
