Is it true that walnuts can inhibit the absorption of iron? I'm on ferrous fumarate but I consume, every day, 1oz of shelled walnuts. I believe that soaking in water can negate the bad side effects. Thank you.

Hi, phytates found in nuts like walnuts and almonds do affect absorption of iron. However this can happen when its taken together. Iron supplementation is always recommended at bedtime so that there is no hinderance in its absorption. To improve iron absorption you need to have vitamin c rich foods with meals like lemon, amla, tomato etc.
