Been suffering from intrusive thoughts and depression for 8 years. Initial 4 years without medicine and last 4 years on almost every ssri out there but no improvement. Changed my doc he prescribed aripiprazole 2 mg along with vortioxetine 5 mg. It worker great for recurring intrusive thoughts but didn't help in depression part and also had impulse control behaviour side effect. So recently my doc changed my meds to lamotrigine and vortioxetine. Been 15 days on lamo. initially 25 mg and now 50 mg. Lamotrigine seems to work slowly but surely but vortioxetine seems to make me excited and elated sometimes irritable. My queries are can I stop vortioxetine and continue with just one drug lamotrigine. And what would be my target dose of lamotrigine as these days I am taking 50 mg but it's not yet there where it's effect is optimal.

Dear lybrate-user, nice to know that lamortigine is helping you. If you suffer from bipolar depression, to prevent future episodes, lamotrigine is used. To avoid its side effect, it is slowly built up to 200 mg a day. At times if you suddenly increase the dose, deadly skin condition may happen. Your doctor will increase the dose periodically. After lamotrigine is build up, probably you can stop vortioxetine. Please discuss with your psychiatrist.

You should discuss this with your dr, definitely he/she will help you but without consulting to your Dr. don't do experiments with medication.
