Hi, my kid is 9 months old. Now he is eating kichidi which is made with rice, dal, half tomato, small piece of carrot, 2 peas, 4 to 5 leaves of palak or spinach. My doubt is that if I use palak along with tomato is that causes any problem like stones in kidneys like that. please suggest. Suggesting some other baby food is most helpful.

Dear parent You are giving a very nutritious diet to your child. Don't worry, it will do him good. Make sure the child takes enough fluids. It is always good to include a source of iron and a source of vitamin c in the diet as it improves iron absorption. You may however remove the seeds and skin of the Tomato before use. You can make porridge with 1tsp atta, and 1tsp soya atta or chana atta. Roast them in ghee, add milk, sugar/jaggery, 1/4tsp roasted groundnut/almondpowder. U can use rice fluor, ragi fluor etc also. You can make vegetable idlis also and cutlets using mix vegs, paneer and chana atta. It is always good it keep changing the menu/the vegs you are adding in the dalia as it removes monotony and all nutrients are added to the diet.

You are doing a super job. This khichri is perfect for the baby. There is no risk with Palak of renal stones. Give your child plenty of soup, nimbu pani, banana, mosambi etc and plain water too. You can also add butter to the khichri and give egg yolk now.

In growing child you have to give all types of food and check his TSH to see if he has hypothyroidism for not eating Don?t try and google this without engaging heavy duty scepticism filters, or you will find articles claiming eating peas causes 1000 times more cancer than smoking, and other such ridiculous claims. Stick to reputable sources.

Baby needs to be given same food that family eats. It has to be made semi solid so that baby can swallow. You all need to take meals together with baby so that baby watches and learns the way you eat. Whole family (infants and older children included) needs to take healthy food. You are doing a great job just enjoy meals together with the baby. This will inculcate a good habit.
