I had my tartar removal today and after that my mouth is producing a little more saliva than usual. The doc prescribed me HEX mouthwash. After I used it I had to spit after every 15 mins. Is it ok to gulp the saliva mixed with mouthwash ingredients ?Can I wash my mouth after an hour of using the mouthwash?

Hello Lybrate user, it is normal to have hypersalivation (excess salivation) after tartar and plaque removal. Chlorhexidine is very good antimicrobial mouthwash, though the taste is a little different and for half an hour there is little altered taste sensation. You don't have to use it after every hour. The usual regimen (dose) is to rinse with the mouthwash for a minute twice daily.

It is not necessary to wash your mouth. Mouthwash helps you to kill harmful microorganisms. Spitting your saliva does not harm you but try to avoid that since you will lose the medicines of mouthwash in your saliva.
