I am 17 year old boy. I have a retinal detachment in right eye from childhood. Now it has been treated Actually doctor preferred me to not to go operation so LASIK was done on left eye to reduce the effect of right eye. Everything its okk but squint has been developed in right eye and ball is shifting outside from its initial position Its getting difficult for me to make eye contact. Doctor said that squint can be treated permanently. Can you suggest ways to reduce the squint please.

Hello lybrate-user, it seems from your description that the squint has developed due to right eye having no or very low vision. As there is not good vision in tht eye it fails to take up fixation and deviates. So, in such cases all conservative non surgical methods will fail to correct squint. Only surgical correction can be done. Unfortunately there are no other methods to correct it in your case. I hope this explains your query.

As you have mentioned that you have retinal detachment in your right eye since childhood. So vision in that eye must be very less. LASIK can correct the refractive error but can not correct the low vision in your right eye due to retinal detachment. That is why your doctor did not suggest u, LASIK in right eye. The eye which has less vision since childhood does not take fixation to see objects and gradually start having deviation which can only be corrected by squint correction surgery. In few percentage of cases, there are chances that eye again start deviating outside even after surgery. Hope you find it useful.
