Dear Ashok, i can understand the problem of living with a mother who is dementing. Dementia causes sleep problems. A person with dementia may sleep during the day and not at night. But giving sleeping tablets cause problems of falls. Any fall can cause fracture of hip joint at postmenopausal age. So it is better to avoid sedatives. WHO is concerned about the care takers burn out when they continuously live with your mother. So the care taker, may be you or your wife or sister or a paid help, need regular counselling and change every 6 months. They need to take off from your mother's care for 2-3 weeks as respite. Please take care of these aspects, instead of giving your mother a sedative and caring for fractured bed ridden mother. You can request the doctor to double the dose of donamem 5 and trika. They may be helpful. Keeping your mother in warm and very well lit room at night is helpful. The care taker can wear a eye mask if the bright light affects her/him. Please take care of your mother's food and urination that may disturb her sleep.
