What are the causes for blighted ovum? Is there any relation between having hypothyroidism and having blighted ovum? I have TSH level of 5-6 and had blighted ovum. I miscarried. Kindly suggest of ways to avoid getting pregnant with a blighted ovum. Is there anything we can do to avoid it?

Thanks for the query. Blighted ovum tends occur due to chromosomal abnormality. There is no direct linkage between hypothyroidism and blighted ovum. However, hypothyroidism can lead to repeated abortions, improper development of fetus and bad pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, it is essential to maintain TSh level between 1 to 2 mU/l for conception and even during the whole duration of gestation. For considering next conception you should wait for a few months and see that TSH is brght to above mentined level. Thanks.
