My wife is 17 weeks pregnant. She got surgery (mc Donald) last week as Dr. Said she had an opening which need a stich. Now she is on bed rest. I want to know that how much time she will be on bed rest. And will she complete 36 weeks or we have a risk of pre mature baby. Are we on risk of miscarriage.

Your wife must have got MacDonald stitch ,it's given when cervical OS is incompetent (open). She should take rest and medication as advised by your doctor. If she takes proper rest ,avoids any type of heavy and strenous work ,prolonged standing, takes her medication regularly she will be able to carry her pregnancy to 36 weeks.

Hello dear Lybrate-user, Warm welcome to Lybrate.com I have evaluated your query. The cervical incompetency requires definite suturing for sure. Complete bed rest is usually recommended for 5 - 7 days, Later on depending upon the clinical evaluation, doctor allows moderate mobilisation, she does not require complete bed rest upto 36 weeks. Do not bare weight, do not perform vaginal sex. Drink plenty of liquids to avoid any urinary infection. Avoid constipation by high fiber diet. Strongly recommended to slip in bed with foot end elevated for about 30 - 40 degrees when resting. Hope this clears your query. Wishing you fine pregnancy & great motherhood ahead. Welcome for any further assistance. Regards take care.
