I have Hypothyroidism since 14 years. My recent test revealed My TSH level is 52.98 and Anti Microsomal Antibody (Anti Thyroperoxidase Antibody) is 246. I am currently on Tab Eltroxin 50 mcg. I have entered post menopausal stage last year. Please advise.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Please clarify whether TSH mentioned (52.98 mU/L) is with current treatment of Thyroxine 50 mcg? Usually with initiation of treatment with adequate dosage TSH level is brought down to around 3 to 4 mU/L. At that level all the symptoms are in complete check. If you have started the treatment recently then please check TSH after 6 to 8 weeks. If TSH remains still high then dosage may have to be increased further. As regards the Anti TPO antibodies, that number is also high, suggesting presence of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Treatment in that situation is the same. Thanks.
