I am having nightmares clubbed with anxiety during sleep, mostly everyday, Doctor my age is 20, I am planning to use prazosin 1 mg for nightmares under doctor's supervision, I am a non BP person, can prazosin be used by non BP person's.Is this drug safe to use for nightmares? Please reply.

Hi lybrate-user you have raised a very interesting question. Yes Prazosin is being used as an agent to treat trauma/PTSD related night mare but not in simple nightmares. There are several randomised controlled study where Prazosin were used successfully for PTSD associated night mares. While taking Prazosin there are 1st dose chances of hypotension. So Doctor advised to take this medicine just before bedtime. It can be used in the dose range of 1 to 16 mg for trauma can notered night mares. Thanks.
