If you have felt a lump in the breast, it is better to see a breast surgeon or a surgical oncologist. They would examine you and may ask for a mammogram and an ultrasound. If suspicious lump, they would do an fnac or core Biopsy of the same. There are many causes of breast lump. It could be a breast cyst, which is common in 40’s, which we would just aspirate if significant. Or it could be just the fibrocystic disease or fat necrosis, which is left alone if not causing pain. Rarely fibroadenomas may present with a lump, but the age group is usually younger (15-35). Sometimes phylloides tumor or Cancer can present with a lump. Given all the different causes of breast lump, it is best to let the experts decide. If you want to discuss the same, feel free to contact me directly for the same.
