Hi my husband have a hypothyroidism his tsh is 7.7. Does he need to take tablet daily or can he control with his food .are their any side effects in future we can't cure hypothyroidism? Please give suggestions I am totally tensed.

Hello, Thanks for the query. TSH 7.7 mU/L is high, but considered as subclinical hypothyroidism. No treatment is needed. Hypothyroidism is usually dignosed when TSH goes above 10 mU/L. It is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disease. If it develops, only treatment is to take adequate dosage of Levothyroxine. There is no other treatment. It is better to use Iodinated salt to prevent its deficiency. There is no cure for the disease. He should observe thyroid functions once a year or so. Thanks.
