I am 28 year old female. 1 year ago I diagnosed with hypothyroidism post pregnancy. At that time my tsh was 48 with swelled thyroid gland. Dr. advised me to take 75 mcg eltroxin. It stabilize my thyroid level to 1.10. After stopping breastfeed my tsh level was 9 with the dose of 75 mcg. I increased it to 100 mcg. After 1 month on this dose the tsh level was 4.45. My Dr. said according to my weight my dosage is 125 mcg. I took 125 mcg for 21 days. After take 2 months of 100 mcg and 21 days on 125 mcg I checked my tsh level today i.e 0.46. Is not it too low. Do I need to decrease my dose?

U don?t adjust your dose urself. These r hormones and they affect each part of our body from head to toe. Also check your TSH levels only after 3 months of taking medicines. Not before that.

Hello, Thanks for the query. When one is on adequate dose of Levothyroxine, TSH is maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. At that level almost all the symptoms are in check. Initially there is a need to check TSH every 2 to 3 months till the level is stabilised as mentioned above by adjusting the dosage of Thyroxine. But repeated changing the dose as done by you from 78 mcg, to 100 mcg, to 125 mcg and so on. It takes over 4 to 6 weeks for TSH level to change once thyroxine dosage is altered. 0.46 is marginally low. So please stick with 100 mcg for some time say over 2 months and then check TSH. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.
