Tsh 5.74 is suggestive of borderline hypothyroid. If you have symptoms of hypothyroid, start thyroid supplement in low dose. If you do not have symptoms, wait for 6 weeks and repeat tsh test.

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam in hypothyroidism weight gain is the main issue. Tsh 5.74 mu/l is just above the normal (5.5 mu/l). Usually to consider a patient as having sub-clinical hypothyroidism tsh has to be above 6 to 9.9 mu/l. Most often no treatment is advocated at this level, unless there are troublesome symptoms present. Please let me know whether you have consulted an endocrinologist or general practitioner? If you have any questions please do come back. Madam do you also have diabetes, if yes please come back with details like fasting, pp glucose and hba1c% and drugs being taken with dosage. Because if glucose is not well controlled there is a possibility of weight loss. Thanks.
