Hello lybrate-user. There is nothing to worry about. Surgery is always the last option. First deep cleaning of your teeth and gums will be done, then you will be kept under observation for few weeks during which you need to maintain good oral hygiene. Then your dentist will examine again, if the infection has subsided and there is good bone support to your teeth then surgery is not required. If the infection is severe and tooth support is less, then it will be treated by gum surgery.

Do what your dentist suggests! as gum infections cannot be treated at home just with medications. Do not be scared as most dental procedures are painless and gives great and long lasting results. Act before it's too late.
