What should precaution should be taken during periods for hygiene? Is it safe to use cloth rather than a pad?

Change the pads frequently specially when the flow is heavy during days 2 &3. Wash from front to back, not from back to front. Use clean towel for wiping. Remove blood crusts from the labia during each wash. Bathe regularly. Soaps and sanitizers are not recommended. Home made cloth pads can be used if they are washed recently and sun dried. Increase fluid intake. Take adequate rest.
