Sir my mother is 45 years old and was suffering from hyperthyroidism since last 14 years but the levels are normal and she is taking tab eltroxin 100 mcg. But 3 days before when she went for regular check up tsh levels are 6.81 (hiked) and she was feeling pain in the neck and left arm. Doctor told she is having hypertension 140/100. Which she didn't have earlier what to do now should we start tablets for hypertension or is hypertension only due to thyroid please tell me medicine for hypertension.

I think your mother is having hypothyroid and not hyperthyroid for which she is taking eltrxin 100 mcg daily. Tsh 6.81 means present dose of eltroxin is not sufficient for her hence its dose needs to be increased. Pain in the neck and left arm needs investigations to find out its cause. Most probably it is due to cervical spondylosis, but other caused should be kept in mind. Bp 140/100 is high and if it remains like this persistently then needs to be corrected by medicines which your doctor must have suggested. There are different groups of medicines for treatment of hypertension, and specific medicine for a particular patient is decided after his/her clinical evaluation.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. She is having Hypothyroidism and with TSH at 6.81 mU/L, her present dosage of Levothyroxine needs to be increased by at least 12.5 mcg. TSH should be always maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L or lower. After increasing the dosage she should check TSH again after 6 weeks to see if the desired level is achieved. Hypertension or high blood pressure is not due to hypothyroidism. That can come because of multiple reasons including heredity, dietary issues, being over weight and taking too much of oily foods etc. BP reading of 140/100 mm Hg is marginally high. Reducing salt intake, doing regular exercise, taking a healthy diet and initiating appropriate treatment will help. Since there is no information on her weight, height, diet, exercise and lipid profile, there is no way to understand anything further. Thanks.
