I am very sorry to hear what you're going through. Hyperthyroidism can cause you a range of bizarre symptoms and you could be anxious and depressed at the same time. Given the history of palpitations you need to take an ecg and do a cardiology consultation as soon as you can. Heart normally beats in a regular fashion. But if it becomes excited it can start beating in a very fast way and the regular pattern could shift to an irregular pattern. Excess thyroid hormone levels could cause your heart to beat fast and lose the normal rhythmic beating. This could lead to a condition called atrial fibrillation and if not managed in a timely way can cause serious problems. One of the ways to control the problems associated with your heart beat is to increase propranolol or add other medications. Also if your hyperthyroidism is not controlled adequately it could your heart to beat in this chaotic way and hence your carbimazole may need to be increased. The cause for your hyperthyroidism needs to be known. In most cases it is due to grave's disease. It could also be due to a part of your thyroid behaving independently and releasing excess thyroid hormone. If it's grave's disease and your hyperthyroidism cannot be controlled by drugs you need to take away what's causing this excess thyroid hormone problems - that is your thyroid gland. This can be done by radioiodine therapy or surgery. Radioiodine is preferred unless you have any conditions which will not allow doctors to use that for you. After this has been dealt you will stop producing thyroid hormone and you may need thyroid hormone replacement in the future which is fair enough when compared to the risks uncontrolled hyperthyroidism can cause. Hyperthyroidism also decreases your sleep which will make anxiety worse for you. Propranolol helps to an extent and anxiolytic medications can help you for a while. In any case you need a consultation and a proper understanding of what you are having.
