Hello Doctor, My wife is pregnant (1 month 10 days) and 23 years old. She is suffering from fever from last 3 days and we have consulted with one doctor (Small clinic). The doctor has prescribed following medicines. 1. Auxime (Cefixime 200mg) - Antibiotic table (Daily 2 times) 2. Dolo 650 - Fever Tablet - For every 6 hours3. Folic acid tablets Please suggest whether Antibiotic tablet is harmful for pregnancy or not?

You should avoid unnecessary medication during pregnancy unless it is absolutely indicated. I do not understand why she has been put on tab. Cefixime unless she has some localising symptoms suggestive of infection somewhere in the the body. The short febrile illness of 3 days duration looks like viral in nature unless there are some localing signs & symptoms and just give tab paracetamol 500 mg as & when required if fever goes up > 100.5 degree celsius. If the fever still persists more than one week, then consult your physician & get her investigated.
