I have hypothyroidism and i'm on levothyroxine 12.5 mg in the morn. Is it true that soya products and vegetables like spinach should be avoided as they prevent absorption of thyroxine?

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam I have seen the query. Soy products contalin flavins which are supposed to be having antithyroid effect, so it is better to avoid them. As regards other vegetables like spinach, cabbage, cauliflower, radish etc, it is better to use those sparingly as these also have antithyroid effect. But usage in small quantities does not affect. There is no question about absorption, because you are advised to take thyroxine tablet early morning on empty stomach and then nothing should be takken for next 1 hour. The reason quantity of thyroxine is in micrograms and presence of any other substance is likely to affect absorption. I hope things are clear. Also please remember that your tsh should be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l to be free from the symptoms of the condition. Thanks.
