I am having hypothyroid since 15 years. I was taking 100 mcg thyronorm tablet. But since 2 months I am taking homeopathy medicine and reduced the dose of thyronorm to 50 mcg. Yesterday I did my blood test tsh level has increased above range. Suggest me whether I should continue homeopathy medicine or not.

lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. I have seen the details mentioned. Madam please understand the condition hypothyroidism is because your thyroid gland is not able to produce necessary quantity of hormone (thyroxine), which is absolutely essential for majority of metabolic functions in the body as well as normal functioning of brain. In that situation only method of treatment is to supplement required amount of t4 (as levothyroxine in tablet form), then only the tsh level is maintained with in prescribed normal range and all the symptoms hypothyroidism are in check. Taking other methods of treatment has absolutely no benefit in this disorder. To be in control tsh needs to be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l and t4 in the normal range. Since there are no specific details provided of current tsh & t4 levels, your height & weight, no further suggestions can be made. If you have any questions please come back with all the required information preferably in a private conversation, then I will be able to give specific guidance and prescribe necessary medications. Please look at your lipid profile as that is also affected in hypothyroidism. Thanks.
