I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism in 2012 and since then I am on medication. Currently I am taking eltroxin 75 mcg one tablet everyday. This week I took my blood test in which the tsh level is 5.38 and ft4 is 1.31. The doctor has advised 100 mcg and 125 mcg tablets to be taken every alternate day. Although I asked the possible reason for which I didn't get a satisfactory response from the doctor. Please let me know why suddenly I have been prescribed this kind of dosage.

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam I have seen the details mentioned. However, the condition you have is hypothyroidism. Usually when one is on adequate dosage of levothyroxine tsh should remain around 2 to 4 mu/l with t4 in normal range. Your tsh is a bit high. It is also necessary to know the lab limit (range mentioned by the testing lab). Secondly please let me know if you have any symptoms because of this increase. If you you do not have any symptoms suggesting uncontrolled hypothyroidism then so much increase in dose may not be required. If you have any questions please do come back. Also let me know the symptoms if any and your height. Thanks.
