For last 3 months my wife gets leg cramps in the night. It lasts a few seconds or one minute and then it is normal. What should be the reason and the treatment required. Her age is 66 years.

Hello! Cramps could be due to several causes, most of which are simple to tackle. Drinking more water, consuming more electrolytes (coconut water) and starting her on a vit-D supplement would b the first line of action. Tab uprise D3 60k once a week for 8 weeks along with tab gemcal once a day for 8 weeks. This will tackle any deficiencies which are known to cause such cramps. If after a month, you feel the cramping is still happening, you would want to meet a spine specialist who will get more information (like any difficulty in walking long distances, any back/ leg pain) and direct the treatment accordingly. As of now, I believe she will do well with the vit supplementation and more water intake. Hope this was helpful!
