I am 30 years old. I am having a baby of 4 1 / 2 months. I am breastfeeding her but I have a doubt whether she is getting enough milk or not .my baby's weight is 5.7 kgs. So my neighbours are suggesting me to take bread & milk for more milk production. Is it safe & healthy for me to take bread & milk daily twice. Please give me the right diet pattern to increase my milk production.

Many people ask this question in a mistaken belief that the milk production in the mother is less. Most often it is not true. If the baby is passing plenty of urine, 5-6 semi formed stools per day and if the baby is gaining weight, the breast milk is sufficient. However to ensure good supply of milk, the mother must feed the baby often to ensure the" let down reflex" which happens only when the baby suckles. Drink plenty of water and take frequent small nutritious meals.(extra calories 300-500, in form of ghee, butter are helpful. Stop worrying. Stress reduces milk production. Have sufficient privacy, nurse the baby in peace. Methi dana, zeera plenty of dal and vegetables and fruits will do the trick. Enjoy the feeding, don't treat it as a burden.
