Any mouthwash will not help to bring the receeding gum back to normal. Mouthwash is not meant for it. It can maintains the oral hygiene one periodontal therapy has been performed (scaling, root planing, curettage, pocket removal, various flap surgeries ). Chlorhexidine or listerine mouthwash (there are many others) can be used according to specific need which is accessed by specialists. Not randomly and not without any problem. In a child seldom it is needed. Similarly in an adult who can keep the oral hygiene proper, I don't prescribe unnecessary. Hope it will help. THANK YOU.

Dear Lybrate user, receding gums cannot be treated by using mouthwash alone. Consult your local dentist for a check up and get the required treatment. Long term use of mouthwash is not good as it leads to change in taste sensation. Receding gums (if the condition is not very severe) can be treated by following some simple tips like brushing gently using a soft toothbrush, massaging the gums and getting regular scaling/professional cleaning at least twice a year. If the condition is worse, minor gum surgery can be done. The health of your gums is very important for your teeth. Receding and inflamed gums lose their grip on the teeth and can can lead to loosening of teeth at an early age. It's better to get proper treatment rather than using mouthwash for a long time.

Receeding gums can have various etiologies. Like improper brushing, brushing with force and problems related to your occlusion or frenal attachment. Visit a periodontist nearby and find out the etiology by getting your check up done. Mouthwash won't help.
