Hi, You have to maintain a low fat diet and do regular exercise. This will control your LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and improve your HDL (good) cholesterol levels. Include more protein food, nuts such as almond, walnuts, fruits and vegetables. Cut down on oily snacks, deep fried food and fast foods. Taking medications do control your lipid levels but the problem is as soon as you stop they would go up if you are not maintaining your lifestyle. We recommend taking medications for lipids if they are at very high levels or if the cardiovascular risk of an individual is high which is calculated depending on family history, smoking history, age and other factors. So if your cardiovascular risk is high your doctor may suggest you to take lipid medications for long time. However, you should continue with healthy diet and exercise for lifelong.
