Hi Dr, I have severe asthma and I have a prescribed inhaler. I also have anxiety and am on 2 medications for that, one to help it over time that I take every day and another one I take when I have as a "reliever" when I have an anxiety attack. How do you tell the difference between an anxiety and asthma attack? Also, can anxiety trigger an asthma attack? Best wishes!

Dear Lybrate User, Anxiety Attacks can mimic Asthma attacks, specially when Asthma is uncontrolled. Breathlessness in anxiety will not be relieved by using emergency dose of Inhaler, rather lying down, having tea or coffee will help. Anxiety has triggers like Asthma, better to identify and avoid them. Wishing you Good Health.
