Metformin has proven to be reducing progression of pre-diabetes to diabetes. However, diet, exercise and weight loss are better than metformin in this context. So focus on good diet and exercise. And normal bmi for indian is below 23. Apart from bmi, waist circumference for male should be below 90 cm. So if you are not within these parameters, loose some weight and inches with diet and exercise program. This will benefit to reduce the risk of developing diabetes.
