I am 32 years old from past 8 months am suffering from hypothyroidism because of this am gained almost 6 kgs of weight. And I feel sometimes very heavy body swelling in face and hands and sometimes very skinny body. My Dr. prescribed me thyronorm 12.5 am taking this medicine from 25 days but I don't feel any difference in my body. Please help me out I don't want to become fat.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. You have only given the dosage of Levothyroxine 12.5 mcg, but there is no mention of TSH level. Unless that is known there is no way to comment whether the problem is in control or not. Please let me know what was the TSH level when hypothyroidism was diagnosed? Because hypothyroidism is diagnosed when TSH is > 10 mU/L and above. When TSH is between 6 to 9.9 mU/L it is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism and most often no treatment is advised, unless a patient has troublesome symptoms of the condition. After a month of usage get your thyroid profile on fasting and check whether it is within normal range or not,if normal continue same medicine, if not consult your doctor for dose adjustment. Unless and until Thyroid levels are normal you can not think of keeping your weight under control. Already gained weight can be lost only with diet control and physical activity.
