I lead a healthy lifestyle now, occasionally drink wine don't drink beer or whisky anymore, stopped smoking, I practice Tai Chi, eat home cooked food most if the time and almost never eat fast food anymore, I got fasting sugar at 112 recently, HB1c test did not show anything out of range, am 35 years old and my family has diabetes history which has concerned me a bit, I also have slightly higher LDL at 142, this is after I have reduced my Triglycerides from 550 to 172 in about 3 years by slowly changing lifestyle into a healthier one, Please advise me what more I can do to keep away diabetes and cholesterol problems.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given. Your fasting glucose is high. Ideally it should be <100 mg. It is in the prediabetes range. With family history of diabetes, it is good to know that you have adapted a healthy lifestyle. It is important to remember to maintain near normal weight for your height (both not mentioned). BMI should be closer to 23 kgs/M2. Alcohol in any form or quantity is better to be avoided. So is the case with smoking. A daily exercise of over 1 hour is a must. Avoid deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items, sweets. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits. Use whole grain flour for chapati and roti. With this lifestyle you should be able to either postpone or prevent the onset of diabetes. Thanks,
